Short Animated Film by Blecyrezza E. Piluden to Be Screened on 1st Indie Bravo! Film Festival

A short animated film by a Cordilleran artist based in Baguio City is scheduled to be screened at the upcoming 1st Indie Bravo Film Festival which will run from December 9 to 11 at My Cinema in Greenbelt 3, Makati City.

Kalon, an animated short by Blecyrezza E. Piluden is among the films included to be shown on the third day of the festival (December 11). A synopsis for the film from the Film Development Council of the Philippines strongly suggests that Kalon will be about two young lovers whose relationship will be compromised by the plans of the young man's father for an arranged marriage with a different woman.

Here's the full synopsis for Kalon:
Lakay Shalan decides that his only son, Kajem, is of the right age to marry, and so hurries off to find a wife for him. Kajem is only unable to have his say on the marriage matter, and helplessly looks on as his father ventures out to seek a wife.

Meanwhile, a group of girls leave for home after panning for gold along the river. Lakay Shandin is heard calling for Shamdja, one of his daughters. Mahaysha, Shamdja’s sister, realizes that her sister is not among their group and starts calling for her. Shamdja hides behind a big rock, ignoring their calls. She quickly slips away through the forest and stops by a pine tree. A man appears before her and they embrace. The man turns out to be Kajem, who tells her of his father’s intentions of an arranged marriage for him. They are deeply troubled.

The Indie Bravo Film Festival is a project by the Philippine Daily Inquirer in cooperation with the Film Development Council of the Philippines. The festival will be featuring at least six documentaries and eleven short films. The films have previously appeared in various festivals such as the Sineng Pambansa, Cinemalaya, Cinema One, CineFilipino and Cinema Rehiyon.

Piluden's Kalon was previously screened at the Sineng Pambansa festival in Davao City last June and July. It was featured in the animation category alongside Si Pagong At Si Matsing by Analyne D. Pineda.
