Passenger Van Falls Along Halsema Highway in Atok, Benguet; 1 Reported Dead

This morning (Saturday, November 30), a white passenger van fell off a ravine estimated to be about 50 meters deep along Halsema Highway within the town of Atok, Benguet. Initial reports say 1 died and 14 passengers were hurt. Jimmy Bangbanga, driver of the van also survived the road accident.

The  reported lone fatality has been identified as Bernabe Lablabong. The names of the hurt passengers are as follows (as per a report by Rappler):

  • Victoria Licwasen, 33
  • Bernaditte Dinisia, 32
  • Elena Salipen, 65
  • Jake Bantasan, 29
  • Tito Ingosan, 57
  • Rachel Bacte, 16
  • Ben Bayas, 17
  • Dona Jane, 1 year and 2 months
  • Marietta Pagnas, 51
  • Charlene Calabson
  • A female passenger identified as Taro

Police and ambulances have been sent to the accident site. Survivors were either sent to the Atok District Hospital or brought to the Baguio General Hospital.

John Vincent, a passenger of a Sagada-bound bus was an eyewitness of the aftermath of the accident. He posted updates and photos of the accident on his Twitter account. In his most recent tweet, Vincent mentioned seeing a bloodied woman getting out of the fallen van.

The accident happened around 11 and 12 am.
