Zamboanga Siege Takes Another Cordilleran Casualty

The ongoing war between Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) rebels and government forces in Zamboanga City has taken another life.

Lawin Salisa, a member of the Philippine National Police Special Action Force was reported to have been killed while he and other SAF members were conducting clearing operations at Sta. Catalina, one of the barangays in the besieged city where a lot of the fire exchanges between the two opposing forces have happened. He was 28 years old.

Salisa hails from the town of Besao in Mt. Province. He graduated from Saint James High School in 2003 and pursued his tertiary education at the Mt. Province State Polytechnic College before joining the PNP Special Action Force.

Salisa isn't the first Cordilleran killed in Zamboanga. More than a week ago, Police Senior Inspector Jay Latawan Oy-oyan (also from Mt. Province) got killed while defending the besieged southern city. He was 25 years old.
