Slain Cop Now on His Way Home

Among the latest casualties of the ongoing war between government forces and Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) rebels in Zamboanga City is a young policeman from Besao, Mt. Province. A member of the Philippine National Police Special Action Force, PO2 Lawin Salisa was killed during a clearing operation in the southern city yesterday (September 24). Also slain during the same encounter was PO1 Enrique Afable, also a SAF cop.

As of this writing, the remains of Salisa is in Bicutan (probably at the SAF Headquarters in Camp Bagong Diwa in Taguig). Earlier this morning at around 11 a.m., the bodies of Salisa, Afable and slain Army Scout Ranger Francis Damian were flown to Manila aboard a C-130 plane.

Before the three were flown to Manila, departure honors were held at the Andrews Air Base. Present during the affair were families, friends and colleagues of the fallen cops/soldier.

Also present during the departure honors were Interior Secretary Mar Roxas, AFP Chief of Staff General Emmanuel Bautista and Defense Secretary Voltaire Gazmin.

Salisa is from Payeo, Besao, Mt. Province. He's an alumnus of Saint James High School in Besao (Batch 2003) and Mountain Province State Polytechnic College (MPSPC) in Bontoc. He's only 28 years old.

Salisa will be brought to Baguio tomorrow morning with a short stop at the Anglican Epiphany Church in La Trinidad, Benguet. From there, he'll finally be taken home to Besao.
