Grenade Blast Kicks Off Panagbenga Grand Float Parade

Well, okay, a grenade blast didn't exactly kick off the Grand Float Parade. Just kind of. During the early morning hours of Sunday (February 24) when everybody was preparing for the grand parade that will start in a few hours, a still unidentified man was preparing not to go see the parade, but to stage an attack against the Baguio Civilian Volunteers Against Crime (BCVAC) group. Minutes after 7 A.M., the man threw a grenade at the office of the group which is located at the Melvin Jones Grand Stand in Burnham park.

Three people were hurt during the blast and were rushed to the Baguio General Hospital. They are Jenard Palomique, Joseph Espadz, and security guard Gilbert Salvador.

Chief Superintendent Benjamin Magalong stated that prior to the attack, the group received threats because of its anti-crime campaign. And as the police always say "Investigation is ongoing."

In other news, the parade went smoothly without untoward incidents.
