Update on Road Accident in Abiang, Atok, Benguet

Last Sunday (January 27), a van fell off a ravine in Abiang, Atok, Benguet. 6 of the 13 passengers died from the tragic accident while the 7 others were injured including the driver Wilbert Galino. Below is a report of the incident by ABS-CBN News. [More details here.]

Karen Davila - "Six people died after a van fell off a cliff in Benguet. The van's driver admits he fell asleep on the road."

Reporter - "The Galino family's trip back home to Baguio City ended in tragedy. Their van fell into a cliff in Abiang, Atok, Benguet at dawn on Sunday. The family had just come from the Mountain Province where they attended the wake of a relative. The van's driver Wilbert Galino admits he fell asleep while driving. The van fell down a cliff that was about 300 meters high. Some of the passengers were thrown out of the van at the upper portion of the cliff. A rescue team arrived around five in the morning to help the victims. Seven people including the driver survived the accident. They were all injured. 6 of their relatives did not survive. The wounded are now recovering at the Benguet General Hospital. The family says they are not planning to file charges against the driver."
