Kevin Belingon to Face South Korean Soo Chul Kim in ONE FC 5

Another Cordilleran fighter is seeing action in ONE Fighting Championship's fifth major event which will be held for the first time in the Philippines at the Smart Araneta Coliseum on August 31. Kevin “The Silencer” Belingon (9-1) will battle Soo Chul Kim (5-4) of South Korea. It's a good match-up as far as experience is concerned. Both fighters have an almost identical MMA career experience. The same cannot be said about the match-up between Eric Kelly (7-0) and UFC veteran Jens Pulver (26-16). The gap between the two when it comes to experience is so wide. It's Alvin Cacdac vs. Rex Wa-o all over again. I'm not saying that we'll see the same result as I do believe that Kelly have what it takes to beat Pulver. It's just that you'd think that the matchmakers would have done better jobs.

This will be Belingon's second fight for ONE FC. He fought last March in ONE FC 3 and lost to Masakazu Imanari via first round submission. So in a way, Belingon needs to redeem himself in his upcoming bout against Soo Chul Kim because if he loses, he'll be 0-2 in the ONE FC. I am confident that Belingon can easily beat Kim because he sports a  better record against much tougher opponents.

Eduard Folayang is also in the card but no opponent has been announced yet which is kind of strange because the fight is just a month away. By standards, a month of training for a particular opponent is just not enough.

Anyway, good luck to the Cordilleran warriors. To quote a line from a Bob Dylan song, “May God bless and keep you always”.

We'll be cheering for you at the Coliseum.
