The Philippines is #6 In Countries With the Most Facebook Users

I have always been interested with social media. This is of course understandable because I am a blogger and the very act of blogging is in itself a form of social media. For those of you who are still uninitiated with what social media is, in the simplest of terms, social media is composed of Facebook, of Twitter, of blogs, of Foursquare, of Friendster and a plethora of other web properties. Websites which are being used by people to connect and converse with other people online are called social media sites, the best examples of which would be Facebook and Twitter.

I am on Facebook. I also built a Facebook Page for this blog, you can like the page here. I am on Twitter as well but I am using my account for the sole purpose of being a discovery tool so I am not following anyone nor letting anyone to follow me. I might change my mind in the future (who knows) once I get to grasp what I need Twitter for.

Anyway, I've read from one of my favorite blogs, Mashable, a really eye-opening article. You can read the full article here. Included in the article was a graphic illustration presenting the top 10 countries in the world with the most number of registered Facebook users. The United States is of course number one with nearly 150 million users. The Philippines on the other hand is number six with more than 18 million users.

This is information that is very relevant to people like me who entertain the idea of trying to earn our marks and make our voices be heard online. Bloggers such as myself, website builders, freelance writers, online entrepreneurs, online marketers, giant corporations, media conglomerates can use this information to further their agendas and their goals.

If you look at the side bar of this blog, you will see a widget, a Facebook widget. It's a widget for the Facebook Page that I created exclusively for this blog. It currently has more than 400 likes. Not really bad for a blog who is only a few months old. This is the beauty of social media, at least in the eyes of bloggers and webmasters. You can use it to build your brand online, drive traffic to your website or blog and make people aware that you exist. As an icing on the cake, social media is 99% free.
